The seventh NRAC online event will be on Thursday 16th May 2024 from 9:30am to 12:45pm.

The programme includes:

The Building Safety Act and associated regulations have triggered the most fundamental reform of building related regulations in England since the Second World War. Hywel Davies will outline the nature and scope of the changes, the new responsibilities which came into force on 1st October 2023 and the new procedures for the approval and regulation of all building work in England from that date, including the new Building Safety regulator, the statutory registration of building control professionals and explicit regulations for competence. This session will highlight the impact of the legislative changes on access and inclusive design professionals, and the various roles they may be undertaking, as well as potential impacts for disabled people in terms of building safety and usability.

Diana Canghizer is an Inclusive Design Consultant at Jacobs and has a wealth of experience embedding inclusive design into healthcare environments. Diana will introduce her work on gender-inclusive healthcare, specifically designing healthcare environments for gynaecological and hormonal health consultations. She will highlight how a patient-centric methodology can be applied when designing healthcare environments by integrating user research insights into the development process, to ensure people focused, welcoming, usable, relevant and futureproofed environments are created.

Andrew Barker is a graphic designer and behavioural researcher specialising in information design and author of the updated Sign design guide. Andrew will provide an overview of the Sign Design Guide+ and highlight key updates in the second edition.
