Professional Summary
Kate is a highly experienced architect and inclusive design consultant. She has a wide range of experience, which includes education (early years, primary, secondary and SEND), community, mixed-use, supported living settings and civic projects at all design stages. She has led a series of award-winning education, housing, and community projects, and in 2021 Kate was awarded the RIBA Southeast Project Architect of the Year Award. She has led on a project which won the Selwyn Goldsmith Award for Universal Design and received an honourable mention in UIA’s Friendly and Inclusive Spaces awards 2021.
Kate is a passionate advocate for design excellence and embedding the highest standards of inclusive design. She is actively involved in the industry and her work is focussed on addressing inclusion in the built environment. Kate is chair of the Access Association London Region and she is a member of London Legacy Development Corporation’s Built Environment Access Panel. She also contributes to the development of inclusive design practices and standards and was invited to join DLUHC’s Approved Document M research steering group in 2018/19 and a working group looking into the review of Approved Document K 2022/2023. Kate is also currently contributing to Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA’s) Inclusive Design Overlay Project. Kate is a Civic Trust awards assessor which champion design quality and celebrate the very best of inclusive design. She also represents the RIBA as the co-member of the International Union of Architects (UIA) Region 1 Architecture for All Work Group.
She is an Associate Director of Inclusive Design at Jacobs. The Inclusive Design team at Jacobs takes a unique technical, engineering-based approach to deliver a built environment that works for the maximum range of people. Informed by research, data and evidence, delivering solutions that are relevant and future-proofed. Going beyond ‘access for disabled people’ to seamlessly meet the requirements of a diverse population.
